Oh dear. No blog posts since April? Remiss. It’s time to get back on the horse. One thing that’s caught my eye this week is a Facebook group recording instances of misogyny at Oxford Uni.
It partly stuck out because I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about feminism and publishing and the ways we talk to boys and girls through books.
But, also, found it interesting because social media didn’t really exist when I was at university – and being able to aggregate people’s experiences like this is fascinating. Experiences of prejudice are all too often subtle, and so easy to dismiss… until you see them in bulk. A similar site I came across was Microagressions – the little ways in which people snipe at others because of race/sex/all kinds of identity markers.
